The user was experiencing display issues with her screen. Laptop was docked with an external monitor attached. Windows was trying to open documents to a no-existant 3rd screen.

While troubleshooting the issues the display driver was uninstalled & the screen went blank. after restarting the laptop the Windows logo displays and then the screen goes blank (WIndows startup sounds can be heard).

  • Tried Using FN+F8 without successs
  • With safe mode the display works.
  • When in safe mode or using RDP the display adapter shows the driver as "Video controller (VGA Compatible"
  • Connecting to external display does not work
  • Uninstalling the driver brings back the above driver.
  • Error message when trying to install new drive rom Dell site "System does meet minimum requirements.
  • Resetting & updating the BIOS did not resolve the issue

Inspiron N5110 as second monitor

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the monitor of an Inspiron N5110 as part of an extended display (a secondary screen) rather than being the primary screen? And if I buy an adapter for the VGA port in the back, is it even designed to let signals in?

Thanks in advance!

Dell XPS 13 Half Screen Flickers (with picture)

I've had my XPS 13 for a couple months and it has been getting worse and worse with a flicker thats just more than half the screen. I took a picture of it during the flickering for an idea of what it looks like. I've updated the drivers to the most recent ones (I followed an older link to update and mine are newer than what were suggested). I'm at a loss as to why its doing this, there is no common action that I've been doing to make it happen. It typically just starts doing it on its own, with or without me actually using the laptop.

Possible to upgrade a graphics card in a Latitude e6420?

I recently purchased a Latitude e6420, not realizing it was running HD3000 graphics, is there any way to upgrade this to HD4400? Or even to a non Dell card like a GTX970? I realize I should have done my homework and discovered before making a purchase that I was buying a rig with such an inferior card, but I was doubtful that any laptop running an i7 processor would be running such a bad graphics card.

Premier Color changing profiles keeps lowering brightness.

When switching between profiles (e.g., sRGB, Adobe RGB) within Premier Color, the brightness just keeps going lower and lower, without modifying it.

E.g.:

  • I start out at 70 on Adobe RGB
  • Switch to sRGB and it becomes 43
  • Switch to Adobe RGB and it becomes 57
  • Switch to sRGB and it becomes 33
  • Adobe RGB: 45
  • sRGB: 27
  • .....

How are these brightness values stored? After coming from sleep the brightness also seems to change, and I can't make head or tail on how this is 'managed' by which settings where.

Inspiron 15 7559 4k screen issue

Is there a "driver or ICM file" for the screen? Shows up in my device manager as generic pnp.

I know the screen is an LG Philips [Unknown Model: LGD04D9] 156UD2  [DELL P/N: 53FC4] according to HWinfo64.

I would like to have the correct info for the screen as I use it for photography and the colour reproduction is important.

Thanks

Dell Inspiron 7000 Series - Changing the Display Adapter?

So I was hoping to be able to add a second monitor with my Dell Inspiron, but I didn't have an extra monitor just lying around, so I was hoping to be able to use my old laptop for the same purpose. I tried hooking up the two computers with an HDMI cable, but there was no response. I'm fairly certain that the issue lies in the Inspiron's Display Adapter, which uses the Intel graphics card instead of the Nvidia one that is also installed. Is there some way to change the display adapter that the computer uses?

Or, if I'm just completely wrong about what's causing my problem, is there something else that could be making it so that my two laptops won't connect via HDMI?

Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 Special Edition - AMD Display Driver issue

Hello,

Well to start with the problem arose 2 days earlier when I was playing League of Legends as usual. The laptop crashed to black screen and started rebooting but was presented by a blue screen error Vedio TDR Failure(atikmpag.sys) and it would keep restarting.

In case you are wondering, no new drivers or windows updates were installed that day or the week.I have been using the same drivers with no issues for an year or so.I didnt have the recovery disk with me,so I downloaded the same version of OS 8.1 single language from the windows website into usb drive and successfully booted into safe mode with it.Then, I proceeded to uninstall AMD drivers and all its components and voila,my computer could boot normally again.Hence, the problem is AMD.Now, I tried installing the original AMD drivers from the dell support website , which were successful except AMD DISPLAY DRIVER,which brings me the root cause. The log just says AMD DISPLAY DRIVER status failure.Again, I uninstalled in safe mode and tried installing from AMD website(the updated ones),which installed successfully. The laptop rebooted but after 4-5 minutes, again another blue screen error popped up saying THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER and restarted again and again.Currently, am running my laptop without any amd drivers(uninstalled them).

Tried running sfc /scannow says found corrupted files, tried repairing with restorehealth said failed to repair amd64.....

Please help.

Thanks

Dell Inspiron 7520 won't load to start

Hi, I am having problems with my Portable Computer, Dell Inspiron 7520 for the second time this week.

I noticed my Laptop loads indefenitely on a black screen and won't ask for my password... Both times, the night before I clicked "Update and shut down" but it just shut down immediately. Now, when I open it, it's like it was trying to get the update it forgot, but just won't load?

The first time, I removed the battery and power supply, pushed the power button for 1 min to force recovery. Then, I opened it and it didn't load. I tried the "F8 key" for recovery, and choose F12 to be able to reboot it normally and it started.

Now, for the second time, I think I've tried everything including the steps I wrote before. I can't have acces to "more options" for the recovery, the F8 key won't do anything most of the time. When it does, it just tells me to reboot it normally, I don't even have other options...But of course it won't work.

Help me please, all my homeworks and Adobe suite is on this computer.

Inspiron 7559 + U2415 monitor: sudden appearance of a block of white square area on top left of monitor

I recently bought an Inspiron 7559 laptop and then decided to clone the HDD with a Sandisk 1TB SSD. I also added another 8GB main memory. I replaced the drive and the PC worked just fine.

After a few days, I quick formatted the HDD and put it back in as a Data D drive. The day I did that Dell upgraded my BIOS and on reboot soon after a square block of white area appeared on the top left quadrant of either of my screens, the laptop or the U2415 (also brand new.) If I move between the screens then the other does not show the anomaly.

If I right click on the task bar and bring the desktop up the block gets painted over/filled with the background. However if I start an app, say a browser the block re-appears. I did Dell diagnostics which passed all the components and then also diagnostics via the BIOS and that also did not show any problem. I decided against the longer diagnostic for now.

There does not seem to be any issues but it would be good to solve it...maybe something came loose when I opened the back and replaced the SSD or the HDD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there's many new versions of the driver has been released but i was told that the manufacturer driver is the best for laptops.
so i wish if dell could update that driver asap.

Inspiron 7559 GPU disappeared after BIOS update!

My gpu isn't showing up in device manager, or in the bios. nvidia installers and geforce experience wont work because they say I don't have the required hardware. there have been no knocks or drops since updating the bios last night that might have caused this, and I've already done a factory reset, no luck, I'm stumped!

Dell XPS 15 (9550) and Silverlight

I just bought a new XPS 15 and I believe I'm having a video driver issue with an application that runs in Silverlight.  The main application works fine but whenever I click an option that is supposed to create a window, the window never appears and it locks up the app.  The only way to get it back is to refresh the page.  I know the app works because on other computers it works fine.  I've tried firefox and the same behavior is present.

Now my question is, is there a way to force my laptop to use a specific video card?  I have an intel and Nvidia card in the laptop.  All drivers are up to date.

Connecting and then using an external display

I have a Dell Inpiron N5110 laptop and Id like to connect a Viewsonic display to it. I've tried connecting directly to the VGA port and to the HDMI port using a HDMI to VGA converter cable with no success. The display says 'NO SIGNAL' using both the laptops HDMI and VGA ports.

On a previous Dell Inspiron laptop, running XP,  I had no problem connecting and using the Viewsonic. On that laptop all I had to do was right click on the desktop, click Display Setting and Video Output to the VGA port. Win7 doesnt have that option.

Can someone tell me how to get this external display working off of my 5110 Win7 laptop?

Completely disable Alienware AlienFX

Hi,

I would like to permanently disable the Alien FX backlighting of my Alienware 15 R2 keyboard. The problem is that if I disable the software, the keyboard remains backlighted, even though - before disabling the software - I chose the turned off configuration.

The only way I found to obtain the expected result is to setup a custom theme with "black" lights and keep the software active. I'm not happy with this solution though, because it adds unnecessary startup software thus slowing the OS boot.

Thanks in advance for the help.
